SUMMARY:November Riverfront Readings with Miguel M. Morales\, Jennifer Maritza McCauley\, and Steve Brisendine
DESCRIPTION:Please join us November 13th for our reading at Johnson County Community College featuring Miguel M. Morales\, Jennifer Maritza McCauley\, and Steve Brisendine. \nNovember 13\, 2026 @ 7:00 pm\nJohnson County Community College\n12345 College Blvd.\, CoLab (OCB 100)\nOverland Park\, KS 66210 \n \n  \nMiguel M. Morales grew up in Texas working as a migrant/seasonal farmworker and child laborer. He was a finalist for the 2023 Kansas Poet Laureate. Miguel is a Lambda Literary Fellow and alum of VONA Voices and of the Macondo Writers Workshop. As a journalist\, Miguel earned numerous awards including the Society of Professional Journalists’ First Amendment Award. \n  \n  \n  \n \nDr. Jennifer Maritza McCauley is the author of SCAR ON/SCAR OFF (Stalking Horse Press)\, When Trying to Return Home (Counterpoint Press)\, Recognition (University of Wisconsin Press\, 2027)\, Kinds of Grace (Flowersong Press)\, VERSUS and Tumbao (Texas Review Press\, 2027 and 2029)\, and Neon Steel (Cornerstone). She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts\, Kimbilio\, CantoMundo\, and Sundress Academy for the Arts. SCAR ON/SCAR OFF received an Independent Publishers Book Award\, and When Trying to Return Home was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and a Kirkus Reviews Best Fiction Book of the Year. She holds an MFA from Florida International University and a PhD in English from the University of Missouri–Columbia. She is an assistant professor of English at the University of Missouri–Kansas City. \n  \n  \n \nSteve Brisendine lives\, works and grouses about the constant road construction in Mission\, Kansas. He is the author of six collections of poetry\, most recently Pitch Invader on a Foosball Table (Alien Buddha Press\, 2025). His burning ambition is to be the favorite poet of someone he’ll never meet. In his spare time\, he is often cranky and forgetful\, especially when it comes to handing in official forms on time. \n  \n  \n  \nSee below map for parking and directions on campus:
