Friday, August 14, 7:00 PM The Writers Place The Nonprofit Village 31 W. 31st Street Kansas City MO 64108   Catherine Strayhall is a 2025 Kansas Notable Book author whose work has appeared in KANSAS! magazine, Gleam, the Kansas City Star, and on Kansas Public Radio's show Prairie Journal. She has been featured several times in the online publication Poets Reading the News, where she went on to serve as an associate editor. Catherine works in libraries, and you can often find her reading poetry in the Crossroads or on Strawberry Hill. Her award-winning collection, Dress Me Like a Prizefighter, is available from Spartan Press.       Brandon Whitehead has one poetry collection "Thieves, Pharaohs & Mexican Daredevils", and one short story collection "Outpost 4423". He is also the host for the Speakeasy @ Swordfish Tom's.

Friday September 11, 7 PM Kansas City Kansas Community College 7250 State Avenue Kansas City, KS 66112 Jewell Student Center Room 2325 Parking and Room Instructions: From State Avenue, turn onto Campus Boulevard. Follow the road past the pond on the left and into the parking lot. The main building has two wings, like an airplane. The Jewell Student Center is the fuselage in the middle. Take the stairs down and enter the doors marked “Henry M. Louis.” Follow the hallway straight back to room 2325. This interactive Campus Map lets you select “Floor 1” and then zoom in to see room 2325 in the Jewell Student Center.   Huascar Medina is a poet, editor, essayist, and letter writer. He was Kansas's poet laureate from 2019 to 2022 and became an Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow in 2022. His books include How to Hang the Moon (Spartan Press), Un Mango Grows in Kansas (Spartan Press), Protest as Love Poem (Meadowlark Press), and the upcoming Prairie Fool (Plainspoken Books), a collection of essays on politics, class, and culture. His work has appeared in various journals and media, including the Flint Hills Review, Gasconade Review, Green Mountains Review, Kansas Magazine, Latino Book Review, and The New York Times. Visit huascarmedina.com to learn more.         Tasha Haas teaches creative writing, literature, and composition at Kansas City Kansas Community College. She previously taught fiction writing at the University of Kansas for eight years. She earned an M.F.A. in fiction from Bowling Green State University in 1998 and a B.A. in English and French from Fort Hays State University in 1992, and studied French for a year at the University of Nice. In 2004, she received the Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award in Fiction from the Lawrence Arts Center. Her first book, Certain Dawn, Inevitable Dawn, a collection of short stories, was a finalist for the Thorpe Menn Literary Award. Her second collection is The Garden of Earthly Delights (2020). Her stories have appeared in Web Conjunctions, Coal City Review, Flint Hills Review, South Dakota Review, and Stickman Review. Her travels in Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central America have influenced her writing. She is also an artist, musician, and Corgi breeder   Bryan Whitehead grew up in Kansas City, Kansas. After working as a media law attorney in Washington, DC, he moved back to his hometown to teach at Kansas City Kansas Community College.  In addition to his day job, he maintains a media criticism blog called The Hoffman Lens. He lives with his wife and cats in KCK, not far from where he grew up.
